Do I need Trip Insurance?

Medical and dive accident insurance is mandatory for all liveaboard charters and resort diving!

We highly recommend each guest purchase trip cancellation and interruption insurance. Weather conditions, health problems and many other unforeseen reasons can change travel plans and/or cause financial losses that should be insured against.

Cancellations, losses and disruptions caused by reasons outside of Atlantis' responsibility will be shouldered by the guest unless they are insured.

Atlantis advises each guest to research their insurance, but you may find the following links useful:

Tipping at Atlantis

Tip recommendations are always a hard one! There really isn't a norm... it's totally up to you!

Anything, and I mean ANYTHING would be appreciated!

Some use the 10% rule of thumb, like in restaurants, so for a $100 bill, one would leave $10 as a tip.

As for how. Atlantis provides a 'managed tip pool’ system, whereby rather than having you guys running around on your last day looking for people and handing out cash, we provide you with tip envelopes. Envelopes, available at the front desk, is where you'd leave the tip, and specify who gets what amount. If not specified, the tips divide equally between the entire resort staff, including the gardeners, maintenance, etc.

This way we ensure all who are working towards making your stay unforgettable are rewarded, both in the front and the back :)

You may tip in USD or Philippine Peso, but cash only.

Can I pay tips on Credit Card or withdraw cash?

We cannot provide cash advances on credit cards and we cannot process tips/gratuities by credit card.

Cash is also required for the ranger station on Tubbataha trips if you wish to buy drinks or souvenirs.

Are there ATM machines?

There is an ATM in Sabang, Puerto Galera and in Dumaguete City. However, we suggest you do not rely on ATM machines outside of Manila as the machines are prone to technical failure, may be out of cash or may not support your card.

MEDICAL & VACCINATIONS

Medical

Both resorts have contingency medical plans for diving and non-diving emergencies.

First aid kits, oxygen and defibrillators are available at both resorts.

Recompression Facilities

The closest recompression chamber to Puerto Galera is Batangas and the closest to Dumaguete is in Cebu.

Full DAN oxygen kits and first aid kits are included on day trip boats to Verde Island, Apo Island and other island trips.

Local dives are around two to fifteen minutes maximum from the resorts. A pony bottle with oxygen and regulator on all local dive trips.

Medication

There are several pharmacies in close proximity to each resort. A prescription may be required for some medicines you could normally purchase without at home. If there is a specific medication you require we recommend you bring enough for the duration of your stay.

Vaccinations

Neither location is considered a risk for Malaria, but inoculations for Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Polio and Tetanus are recommended. As always, your physician should be consulted on these and other questions you may have about traveling to the tropics. We strongly recommend drinking plenty of water and other non-alcoholic fluids during your stay. Covid - no requirements. Please check GOV websites for the latest to confirm.

Medical requirements for Diving Courses

A medical form is part of the required paperwork to participate in a diving course. If you have answered “YES” to any question, medical clearance will be required by a doctor.

We recommend getting a doctor's clearance prior to your arrival in the Philippines, if you have any medical conditions.

Additional Information

Drinking tap water is not recommended. Atlantis provides complimentary filtered water. Glass bottles are provided in each room which are refilled at the bar free of charge. Bottled water is also available.

Small cuts and scrapes can become infected in tropical weather, make sure to clean and cover immediately.

Dive Accident insurance is mandatory and travel insurance is highly recommended!
